President Earl Baugh updated our VCF SE 10.0 speaker list. Scheduled to appear: Adrian Black from Adrian’s Digital Basement on YouTube, Tim Jensen and Adam Spring about the video toaster, Tandy engineer Paul Schreiber, and Mark Tessier presenting a new replica machine.

Welcomed two new members and the return of two old members. New and old members are welcome at our monthly meetings, our Discord channel, and our email list.

Highlighted active member projects. Repairs were made to a Compaq Plus Portable motherboard, a VGA monitor, a Macintosh SE, and an arcade game recused from a barnyard!

Patrick Wall of the Southern-Fried Gaming Expo provided an in-person VCF SE 10.0 update. Moving to the banquet room immediately to the right of the ticket booths. Filling 50 tables with vintage tech exhibits. Sharing space with indie game developers. More about the expo at https://gameatl.com/.

David Kuder updated progress on his VGA product line for Apple II computers. Announced: An Apple IIgs VGA peripheral card and an Apple IIc Raspberry Pi Pico VGA external adapter. Greetings, Current and Future AHCS Members!


Reminder: Monthly AHCS Meeting

When: This Saturday, May 13, 2023 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Where: Christ the Lord Lutheran Church, 1001 Duluth Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30043

What: Our monthly meetings run from 1pm to 5pm.

 
Club President Earl Baugh will preside over this month’s meeting. Normally club business is called to order at 2 pm and then adjourns an hour or so later. Members are asked to arrive early and to stay later to help set up and take down tables and chairs. And don’t forget to bring your name badge so that newcomers can identify our seasoned members. If you don’t have a name badge, please get with the club secretary, Mark Little, while at the meeting. Who: Anyone who is a past, current, or future member of the AHCS is welcome to attend!
 

CLUB BUSINESS:

VCFSE 10.0: July will be here before you know it, so this month the club will continue to discuss the planning for this year’s show, including (but not limited to) featured speakers, soldering workspace, member displays and exhibits, and how to market the show to a wider audience.
 

SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE:

We need some help with our social media and “influencer” type of work; it’s too much work for one person. Discussion will be held and volunteers will be solicited to help get the website, Facebook, and Twitter accounts up-to-date and exciting.
 

DUES FOR 2023:

As always, we will continue to collect yearly dues from all members and potential members. Annual rate is $20 and will cover the dues up to August of 2023 when we hold officer elections.  Check with Josh if you need to pay.

 

PRESENTATIONS:

If any member or attendee would like to provide a brief presentation (15-20 minutes) at a future meeting about a vintage computer/subject that you are passionate about, simply let either Club President Earl Baugh or Club Secretary Mark Little know so that your presentation can be added to the agenda. A projector for PowerPoint presentations is also available; just let Earl know ahead of time so that he can bring it.

SHOW AND TELL:

 
Don’t forget to bring your vintage or retro computer projects so that you can utilize the technical and historical expertise our club members freely offer, as well as to show off what you have!
 
FREE TABLES:
 
Club members and attendees are encouraged to bring any old computer/electronic hardware or software, working or not, that they no longer want/need for placement on the Free Tables. And any items that anyone wants to offer at a reasonable price to any attendees are also welcome. We do ask that all members and attendees refrain from browsing the Free Tables while club business is being conducted.
 
Please plan to attend this important meeting. And we hope to see everyone there!

Show off your latest vintage projects and acquisitions every Saturday at 2:00pm at our weekly AHCS Virtual Social.  Share your “back in the day” stories. Or, if you are particularly passionate about a certain machine or piece of software, ask an AHCS member about presenting a 15-minute presentation at a future Social to talk about it.  Everyone who attends the Social is also encouraged to ask anyone online for help with their current or future projects.

AHCS Meeting is This Saturday at 1pm

The next meeting of The Atlanta Historical Computing Society will be held this Saturday, March 14, 2020. We will meet at the usual time (1pm-5pm) and meeting place (Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville, GA). All current and prospective Atlanta Historical Computing Society members are encouraged to attend.

The main topic of this month’s meeting will be to discuss and finalize details for this year’s Vintage Computer Festival SouthEast 8.0, to be held in partnership with the Southern Fried Gaming Expo in July.

In addition, club member Mauricio Vives will host a presentation: “Operating Vintage Arcade Circuit Boards,” in which he will draw from his experience collecting these boards., many of which will be showcased at the meeting. All attendees are encouraged to stick around after the business of the meeting has concluded (usually we’re done with business around 3pm) to enjoy Mauricio’s presentation.

(who are sponsoring our space!). This will allow folks to enjoy two shows at the same time with LOTS of activities!!

We Need A Presenter for AHCS Meeting on March 14, 2020

The next meeting of The Atlanta Historical Computing Society will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020. We will meet at the usual time (1pm-5pm) and meeting place (Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville, GA). All current and prospective Atlanta Historical Computing Society members are encouraged to attend.

The main topic of this month’s meeting will be to finalize the venue for this year’s Vintage Computer Festival SouthEast 8.0.

In addition, it is important that our club get back into having formalized presentations by its members during each monthly meeting. The presentation can be about any topic that is vintage computer-related; perhaps a history of one particular brand or type of computer (macro, mini, or micro); or perhaps a review of a certain type of vintage software (early productivity software, your favorite version of BASIC, etc.); or even maybe an in-depth look at a groundbreaking chip (6502, Z80, 68000, etc.). It can be about just about anything, as long as it relates to the club’s focus, historical computing. Obviously, visual aids such as examples of the item(s) being discussed, as well as any supplemental documents, would enhance the presentation and make it more engaging. Audio/visual equipment may also be available for those wanting to provide a projected Powerpoint presentation; just ask any club officer. The length of the presentation should run between 10 and 20 minutes. If you have a topic that would ideal for a presentation at one of the meetings, please contact Earl Baugh (President), Jon Guidry (Vice President), or Mark Little (Secretary), or reply to the posting at the AHCS groups.io page to schedule it for either this or a future meeting.
